History of Acrylic application
Acrylic is also called specially treated plexiglass.
The research and development of acrylic has more than one hundred years’ history.
The polymerization of acrylic acid was discovered in 1872.
In 1880, the polymerization of methyl acrylic acid was known.
The research of propylene polypropionate synthesis was completed in 1901.
In 1927, the synthetic method mentioned above was used into industrial manufacturing.
In 1937, acid methyl ester industrial development succeeded, entering into the large-scale manufacturing.
During World War II, with the excellent strength and toughness and light transmittance, acrylic was first applied to the windshield of aircrafts and the mirror of tanks.
The birth of the world’s first acrylic bathtub in 1948 marked a new milestone in the application of acrylic.
